I’m wrapping up the edits for my upcoming book, Peace Walk 2027: A dream about a dream about a dream.
When I asked a friend to peek at it and suggest how I might describe the story to readers—my story about my personal Peace Walk from 2017-2019, she was stumped. She wasn’t sure where the story arc was. She seemed to be hoping there would be a big reveal about how I discovered peace and that I would share this secret with readers.
But I don’t have a secret about peace. There is no big reveal about where to find peace or how. My words are not perfect. My ideas are not absolute. All I can offer is to share my heart and the feelings I faced. This was the driving force behind my Peace Walk, and why I wrote about it. I cannot assume that I understand what peace means for others, but I can invite others to discover peace for themselves—to go on their own Peace Walk (if they choose).
Though much has been said about peace, the experience of peace doesn’t have a defined narrative or story arc. We are sometimes taught to wait for and expect a clear narrative before we make a choice about something: to demand the narrative for our own personal consumption before we even try the thing itself. We are sometimes taught to consume narratives before nourishment. We are sometimes taught to ignore our own sustainable nourishment.
Peace isn’t a one-time event to aspire to and consume. Peace isn’t well-edited or well-groomed, fresh out of the hair and makeup studio reading us a perfect script. There is no script to peace.
Peace finds us when we are not looking. Peace finds us when we don’t know to look. Peace finds us and invites us to receive peace. But we have to look for peace to see it, to experience it; we have to allow peace to fill our conscious awareness.
How do we remember to look for peace when there are so many other things vying for our attention?
We don’t have to look very far. Peace is you; peace is me. We are not born scripted, though the times we are born into pass their scripts onto us. We all have the power to choose our scripts and narrate our own journeys. I call this choice—this self-selected narrative—the Peace Walk. It is not so much about walking as it is about making a conscious choice to do something unscripted and un-narrated in our own lives for the sake of allowing our own joy, our own creative inspiration, and our own peace to prevail.
Our joy, our inspiration, and the inner peace it takes to allow joy and inspiration are what true celebration is made of. For me, the Peace Walk is simply a choice to celebrate.
This is my dream: to celebrate.
I invite you to celebrate with me!
