Pause for Peace
I took a break from writing for a while. Moved states. Changed states of mind. Checked many boxes and took care of many details. Hundreds, if not hundreds of thousands of …
Details.
Sooooooo many details in life.
So many boxes to check just to get from one place to another. Even simply to get to breakfast. Or to get to the shower. But especially to get to the other side of the country.
Not all the boxes are as remarkable as a younger version of myself might have once thought, or as significant as others have tried to get me to think they are. Yet for any of us to get to where we intend to go, we must comply and clear the gatekeepers of checklists and box checking.
There’s an insanity to this. Details are undeniably meaningless at times. Their sheer quantity and existence can become mind-numbing and infuriating.
There is a tendency to look for and make up meaning in meaningless details. And feel special or important about it. To set goals and measure accomplishments. But what does any of it mean if the mind is still numb to celebration and the chaos of the world around us is still aptly inching us towards insanity?Â
What has true value?Â
I feel that this question often gets neglected, ignored, confused, misunderstood, misrepresented, confiscated, peer pressured, subordinated, negotiated, allocated, partitioned, denied, rejected, fired, and buried alive.Â
Let’s pause. I said a lot.
This is a peace blog. I write about peace. Be advised that peace comes with knowing the opposite of peace. Peace comes with a price.Â
The price of peace is the willingness to part with what does not have true value.Â
So back to the details…. Who is to say what has real and true value?
The details show us that no one person or one group of people can tell us this with any level of personalized accuracy. We must come to know this for ourselves.
Out of the countless lineups of ads and pitches and influence and fear-mongering, as well as joy-mongering, it is up to each of us to personally see and select what has true value for ourselves.
What has true value for you, friend?
You are your own knowledge holder of wealth.
You are your own knowledge holder of joy.
You are your own knowledge holder of love.
You are your own knowledge holder of peace.
So let’s pause here. Let’s take note and count what actually counts for anything in our life …
